The name Stino, suggested by the letters of the provisional designation, and an abbreviation for the German word stinknormal, meaning “boringly normal”, was chosen for this absolutely ordinary main-belt minor planet, discovered on scans of the original Palomar-Leiden plates taken by T. Gehrels.
