Named for the city in southeastern France, near the confluence of the Roubion and Rhône rivers. The city was called Acunum by the Romans and Monteil d’Adhémar in medieval times. It was a papal possession from 1340 to 1470. The Chateau des Papes serves now as a prison. The city is famous for its candy. (M 34353)
