Named in honor of Peter Katgert (1944– ), astronomer at the Leiden Observatory, and his wife, Leiden astronomer Jet Katgert-Merkelijn (1943– ). Peter’s main research interests are the statistics of radio sources and also the formation and dynamics of clusters of galaxies. Jet is now working on the archive of J. H. Oort {see planet  (1691)}.
