Named in memory of Shun’ichi Kawasaki (1896–1943), the second director of the International Latitude Observatory of Mizusawa {see planet (7530)} and brother-in-law of the astronomer Issei Yamamoto {see planet (2249)}. He introduced the floating zenith telescope to supplement the visual zenith telescope for routine observations. (M 34623)
