Named in honor of the mathematicians Nikolaj Ivanovich Fuss (1755–1825) and his son Pavel Nikolaevich Fuss (1798–1855). Nikolaj Fuss contributed greatly to the development of mathematical education in Russia. Pavel Fuss published a bibliography of the more than 800 scientific papers of Euler {see planet  (2002)}.
