Sutoku (1119–1164), the 75th emperor of Japan, succeeded to the throne in 1123. After his abdication, he was defeated in the war of Hogen against his brother, emperor Goshirakawa {see planet  (3585)}, and exiled for life. (M 36944) _ _.
