Named in memory of Pierre Culliford (1928–1992), better known under his pseudonym Peyo. He was known worldwide for his comic strips, where he created the blue dwarfs known as the Smurfs. Together with Georges Remi (Hergé) {see planet  (1652)}, the father of Tintin, Peyo raised the drawing of comic strips to a ‘Belgian’ work of art. (M 21954) _ _.
