Demosthenes (384-322 BC), a famous orator of ancient Athens was considered by Cicero as the greatest among all orators. Known from his Philippiques, he strove to restore Athens' supremacy and freedom. He played a leading role in the uprising of the city against Alexander the Great, but he failed and took his own life.
