Aimé Jacques Goujard Bonpland (1773-1858) was a physician with a profound interest in botany. In 1799 he joined von Humboldt on his expedition to Mexico and South America. Their exploits have been recorded in Voyage aux régions équinoxiales du nouveau continent (1815).
