Music director of the Chicago Symphony from 1969 to 1991, Georg Solti (Gyƶrgy Stern, 1912-1997) conducted 999 performances with that orchestra. Born in Budapest, he was music director of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, for ten years, and he also directed orchestras in Munich and Frankfurt.
