Named in honor of Roger Chanal, French amateur astronomer and friend of the discoverer. Roger has over the years built a well-equipped observatory and is a contributor to the MPCs. Apart from his interest in asteroid astrometry, he is also the discoverer of V1118 Orionis, temporarily named “Chanal’s object”. (M 23793) _ _.
