Named in honor of Georgij Sergeevich Migirenko (1916– ), academician and professor at the Siberian Department of Russian Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk, known for his work in applied and theoretical mechanics, hydrodynamics, mathematics and ship-building. In recent years he has worked on design problems of ecology-safe machines and transport for northern regions. Migirenko also takes an active part in research on the possibility of asteroids colliding with the earth. He is also a talented singer who graduated from the Odessa Conservatory. (M 30096) _ _.
