Named in memory of Yurij Alekseevich L’vov (1932–1994), deputy director of the Institute of Biology and Biophysics at the Tomsk State University. A prominent geobotanist and ecologist, L’vov was for 30 years an organizer of the regular expeditions to Tunguska {see planet (5471)}, and he made important contributions to the study of the 1908 impact.
