Puertollano is an industrial city in the province of Ciudad Real, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. It was granted the status of town in the sixteenth century. It continued to grow slowly as a small town specializing in textiles and ceramics until the opening of the coal mines in 1873 led to a sudden growth in the population.
