Jens Peter Jacobsen (1847-1885) was a Danish writer and poet. His impressionistic lyrics had a great impact on the German poet Rilke. In 1880 the semi-autobiographical novel Niels Lyhne was published and immediately criticized by contemporary critics as a “bible of atheism”.
