Named for the Babylonian king Hammurabi, who reigned from 1792 to 1750 B.C. and united the different small states of Ur into a single state covering much of Mesopotamia, with Babylon as its capital. Many cuneiform tablets praise his justice. Famous is the stela from Susa containing the Code of Hammurabi. (M 30800) _ _.
