Named for Lysippus of Sikyon (c. 370–300 B.C.), a great Greek sculptor in the time of Alexander the Great. He worked in the late-classical style and had an influence on the later hellenistic style. Most of his work survives in Roman copies and descriptions. His statues have smaller heads and simulate more movement than those sculpted in the time of Polykletus {see planet  (5982)}.
