Named for the Greek sculptor Polykletus of Argos (c. 480–423 B.C.). Together with Phidias {see planet  (4753)}, he was the most important sculptor of his time. Nothing of his original work remains, but many old copies and images on coins are handed down to us, as well as detailed written descriptions. (M 26764) _ _.
