Named for one of the most brilliant Japanese autocrats in the late Heian era, Taira-no Kiyomori (1118–1181). A hero of Tales of the Heike, Kiyomori succeeded his father, Taira-no Tadamori {see planet (4374)}, as chief of the Taira clan and rose to the Dajodaijin, which was the highest position in the Japanese court. In the year before his death, he crowned his two-year-old grandson as emperor and moved the capital to Kobe, where Japanese modern foreign trade has been developed. (M 19696)
