Following a suggestion by J. G. Williams, this planet was named by B. G. Marsden, who made the identifications involving it.

Selle asteroidi järjekorranumbri numbrid ükshaaval kokkuliidetuna annavad summaks kümme. 3+1+2+4=10. Kümme on "Kilo". Pi väärtus on 3.142, seega on kilo pi 3142. ;)
