Alytus is a city of 70000 inhabitants in southern Lithuania. It is crossed by the Nemunas River. Alytus was first mentioned in the historical chronicles in 1377 and was granted city rights in 1581 by Stefan Batory, the Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland.
