Rising near the Mongolian border, two headstreams of the Yenisei proceed westward across Siberia and converge at Kyzyl. Then flowing generally northward, the river passes Krasnoyarsk and reaches the Kara Sea. Of its many tributaries the Podkamennaya Tunguska is known from its proximity to the 1908 impact event.
