French Polynesia includes 118 islands in the South Pacific Ocean, of either volcanic or coral origin, distributed in five archipelagoes: Gambier, Marquesas, Tuamotu, Austral and Society (including Tahiti). This minor planet was the first to be discovered from Polynesia.
