Samuel Scheidt (1587-1654), whose birth and death occurred in Halle, which is also the native town of the discoverer, was a famous organist and composer. He greatly influenced sacred vocal music and the Baroque organ style, with his first publication in Germany of his organ works in the modern five-line stave notation.
