Named in honor of Piero Angela (1928– ). A journalist and science writer, he has created hundreds of science programs for Italian television, including the weekly science magazine “Quark”. He has produced and hosted many popular series, such as “The Marvellous Machine” (a journey inside the human body) and “The Planet of the Dinosaurs”, both of which have been shown in more than 40 countries. He has written numerous books on a variety of subjects, including astronomy, biology, psychology and economics, and he has received two honorary doctorates from Italian universities in natural and biological sciences.
