Named in honor of Thérèse Encrenaz (1946– ), director of the Department of Space Research at the Paris Observatory. Encrenaz is an expert on planetary atmospheres, in particular the study of the chemical composition of planetary and cometary atmospheres, mostly by means of infrared and millimeter spectroscopy. Her main achievements include determining abundance ratios in the giant planets, the detection of several planetary minor species and the detection of parent molecules in comet 1P/Halley. She has been a co-investigator on several space missions, and she is Mission Scientist on the ISO mission. (M 27459) _ _.
