Leipzig theologian Konstantin von Tischendorf (1815-1874) discovered during his travels to the Middle East numerous parchment rolls forming the Bible manuscript “Codex Sinaiticus”, dating from the fourth century. He published them and made extensive contributions to biblical textual criticism.
