German-born Herbert Kroemer (1928– ), who has lived in the United States since 1954, is one of the pioneers of semiconductor heterostructures, used in computers for the transmission of information. He shared the 2000 Nobel Prize for physics with Zh. Alferov and J. Kilby. (M 43195) _ _.
