Pierre Péquignat (1669-1740) is one of the most popular heroes for people living in Jura Switzerland. This farmer from Courgenay fought against arbitrary decisions made by the powerful Prince Bishop of Basel and did his best to preserve local rights and freedom. He was sentenced to death and beheaded in Porrentruy.
