Josef Lada (1887-1957) was a Czech painter and writer whose nostalgic pictures of life in a Czech village in the nineteenth century are loved by both children and adults. Lada illustrated many of his books, including Kocour Mikeš (“Mikeš, the Tomcat”) and Jaroslav Hašek's The Good Soldier Švejk.
