Neil Gehrels (1952) is an astrophysicist who has worked to develop gamma-ray astronomy into a full astronomical discipline. He is the Principal Investigator for the Swift Gamma-Ray Burst Mission (launched Nov. 2004) and was Project Scientist for the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (1991-2000).
