Ustica is a volcanic island 70 km north of Palermo, Sicily, famous for being the first Marine Protected Area in Italy (1986). Ustica is the emergent summit of a large sea-mount with unique features. Its origin is similar to intraplate volcanoes of the Hawaiian type.
