Michael A. Hoskin (1930– ) founded the Journal for the History of Astronomy in 1970 and has since served as its editor. He established the archives at Churchill College, Cambridge, is a leading expert on William Herschel and has done pioneering archeoas-tronomical work around the western Mediterranean basin.
