Silvano Pagliarini (b. 1950) built the public amateur observatory “Padre Angelo Secchi” in Castelnovo Sotto in 1978. In 1980 he was co-founder of the Associazione Reggiana di Astronomia, which focuses on public outreach and basic astronomy teaching for primary and secondary schools in the Reggio Emilia province.
