Named in honor of Tomokazu Kogure (b. 1925), professor emeritus of Kyoto University. His specialties include early-type peculiar stars, emission nebulae, interstellar medium, and nuclei of active galaxies. He served as president of the Astronomical Society of Japan and is currently director of Bisei Observatory in Okayama Prefecture. He is a frequent contributor to research and education on astronomy in Asian countries, especially Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Name proposed by the discoverers following a suggestion by K. Sakka and T. Sato.
