Named after Plato (c. 428–348 B.C.), the most famous pupil of Sokrates {see planet  (5450)}. He was the founder of the philosophical Academy near Athens, which existed for over 900 years. His preserved papers were written in dialogue form as the ‘lessons’ of Sokrates. His philosophy has strongly influenced the western world to the present day. (M 22509) _ _.
