Named in honor of Masanori Matsuyama (1950– ), who started observing minor planets in 1987 and has discovered many new minor planets since then. He lives in Kushiro {see planet  (4096)} and makes observations of minor planets and comets as a member of “Hokkaido Showakusei Suisei Kaigi”. (M 22503) _ _.
