Named in honor of Bob Hope (real name Leslie Townes Hope), American comedian, born Eltham, England, in 1903. Star of numerous radio and television productions, Hope made his mark playing bumbling fools and cowards in such films as Cat and the Canary (1939), Caught in the Draft (1941) and Princess and the Pirate (1944).
