Named for George Bishop (1785–1861), from whose observatory in Regents Park, London, eleven minor planets were discovered. The proprietor of a wine-making business, Bishop served as president of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1857 and 1858. (M 9768) Citation prepared by B. Hetherington _ _.
