Vasil Levski (1837-1873) was a revolutionary renowned as the national hero of Bulgaria and styled the Apostle of Freedom. An ideologist and strategist of a revolutionary movement aimed at liberating Bulgaria from Ottoman rule, he was selected by a nationwide poll as the greatest Bulgarian of all time.
