Archytas (ca. 428–365 B.C.) was a philosopher and mathematician of the Pythagorean {see planet (6143)} school. He is believed to have established the quadrivium (arithmetic, geometry, music, astronomy), which together with the trivium (grammar, rhetoric, dialectics) was the foundation of classical education.
