Named for the German organist Johann Christian Schieferdecker (1679–1732), who became Dietrich Buxte-hude’s {see planet  (4344)} successor at the Marienkirche in Lübeck, by marrying the rather undesirable eldest daughter of his predecessor, apparently one of the side conditions for getting the job. Schieferdecker was a fine harpsichordist and had come to Lübeck in order to learn from Buxtehude the art of sacred composition. (M 31027) _ _.
