Named for the North German organist Georg Böhm (1661-1733), who studied under Buxtehude {see planet  (4344)} in Lübeck. In 1698 Böhm was appointed organist at the St. Johannis church in Lüneburg {see planet  (10801)}. There he wrote his imposing Prelude and Fugue in C major. This opens with a virtuoso pedal solo, highly characteristic of North German organ composers. (M 31026) _ _.
