David Myles Gavine (b. 1937) is a Scottish astronomy historian. An avid amateur astronomer, he has compiled and published sightings of aurora and noctilucent clouds. His doctoral dissertation was on the history of astronomy in Scotland, 1745--1900. He has been a friend of the discoverer for almost four decades.
