Named in memory of Lee Alvin DuBridge (1901–1994), noted nuclear physicist and former president of the California Institute of Technology. DuBridge set an extraordinary example of excellence in scientific research and the administration of science. Included among his many accomplishments was the establishment and direction of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s radiation laboratory for the development of radar.
