Dating from 1205 and first settled in the neolithic era, Holíč is in the Záhorie region of western Slovakia. Famous for its ceramics production in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, it is also known for its fortress that became the Habsburgs' summer residence. The town is the birthplace of the second discoverer.
