German engineer Konrad Zuse (1910–1995) developed and built the first binary digital computer. Working in complete isolation and secrecy, in 1941 he completed the Z3, the first operational program-controlled computer, before fleeing to Switzerland. Zuse computers were the first to be used by astronomers in Czechoslovakia. (M 43383) _ _.
