Grigorij (Grisha) Yakovlevich Perelman (b. 1966) made landmark contributions to Riemannian geometry and geometric topology. In particular, it appears that he has proven the famous Poincaré conjecture. In Aug. 2006 Perelman was awarded the Fields Medal. However, he declined to accept. The name was suggested by P. Venzi.
